Penn State Extension Hosts May 5 Frontiers In Forest Health Webinar On Hemlock Conservation

The
Penn State Extension will host another in its series of Frontiers In Forest Health webinars on May 5 to discuss Hemlock Conservation from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Tsuga canadensis, Pennsylvania’s state tree, is a defining component of forests across eastern North America.

As an ornamental and a cornerstone of many old-growth ecosystems, it provides food and shelter for wildlife such as white-tailed deer and ruffed grouse, while its dense shade helps cool streams for trout and other aquatic species.

This webinar will examine the history and ecological importance of hemlock, the impacts of invasive pests including Adelges tsugae and Fiorinia externa, and practical strategies to support conservation and long-term forest health.
