Energy Independence for PA will train about 100 volunteers across Pennsylvania over the next six months to become Energy Leaders.
If there's one thing most Pennsylvanians can agree on, it's that their electric bills are too high. Electricity costs have skyrocketed over the past five years, rising on average by 46 percent since 2018.
This dramatic spike in costs is largely due to soaring energy demand, paired with stagnant energy supply.
This means Pennsylvania must increase our energy supply to keep costs down – and the cheapest and fastest type of energy to deploy is renewable energy, namely solar and energy efficiency.
However, most Pennsylvanians are not aware of the benefits and cost savings of renewable energy. That's where Energy Independence for PA and our Energy Leaders come in.
Energy Leaders are volunteers who will promote the cost-saving benefits of renewable energy to their communities, from making presentations at town hall meetings, zoning board hearings, Rotary Clubs, and more, to posting on social media and calling legislators and elected officials.
To help Pennsylvanians find true energy independence and keep energy costs down, of course! In addition, participation may look good on your resume or help you expand your professional network.
The total time commitment is approximately 20 hours total over a six-month period, including a six-hour in-person training session on Saturday, May 16, in Westmoreland County, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
There we will equip our volunteers with resources to make their roles as easy as possible, from a ready-to-go PowerPoint presentation, to videos and news stories to share with their online networks.
Beyond the six-hour training, we estimate the time commitment to be 10-12 additional hours spread out over six months. We will also provide ongoing outreach and support during the six-month period.
