Pennsylvania utilities included in the Alert area are: Met-Ed, Penelec, PECO Energy and PPL Electric.
Previous Hot Weather Alerts were issued for May 18 to 20 and June 5-6.
A Hot Weather Alert is a routine procedure PJM issues ahead of forecasted hot weather and/or high humidity to prepare transmission and generation staff and facilities for expected increases in electricity demand, or load.
This procedure does not require any action from customers.
Temperatures are expected to reach and exceed 90 degrees with high humidity across the Eastern portion of the PJM footprint, driving increased electricity demand in those areas.
Forecasted Peaks
PJM is expecting to serve the following approximate peak loads: June 11 - 146,896 MW and June 12 - 140,840 MW - as of June 9 at 1:00 p.m.
PJM’s planning for this summer includes unlikely but plausible scenarios of up to 169,100 MW of demand. Read more here.
PJM’s all-time record summer peak load was recorded in 2006 at 165,563 MW.
