Penn State Extension Hosts Aug. 26 Webinar On Radioactive Radium And Salinity In Groundwater And How It Affects Drinking Water; Featured Speaker Has Researched Contaminated Groundwater From Oil & Gas Development

The
Penn State Extension will host an August 26 webinar on radioactive radium and salinity in groundwater and how it affects drinking water quality from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

The featured speaker is Nathaniel Warner, Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering, Penn State College of Engineering, who has done significant research on contaminated groundwater from oil and gas development in Pennsylvania. [Read more here.]

Salt can enhance the flavor of food, but it can also affect the quality of drinking water.

This webinar explores how different sources of salt influence the movement of radium and other metals in aquifers and drinking water supplies.

Participants will gain a better understanding of the relationship between salt and water chemistry, the factors that affect contaminant concentrations, and the implications for drinking water quality.

Who is this for?

-- Homeowners with groundwater wells

-- Those wanting to learn more about their water supply

-- Water treatment operators

What will you learn?

-- Sources of salt in drinking water

-- Interactions between salts and metals

-- How water moves through aquifers
