DEP Invites Comments On Permit For PPL Electric Montour-Columbia 230 kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project In Montour, Columbia Counties

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the June 27 PA Bulletin inviting comments on an Individual Stormwater Permit for the PPL Electric Montour-Columbia 230 kV Transmission Line Rebuild Project in Derry and West Hemlock Townships in Montour County and Hemlock Township in Columbia County.  (

The project would disturb 353 acres along a 9.75 mile route and impact Chillisquaque Creek, Kase Run (Exceptional Value), Frozen Run (Exceptional Value), Hemlock Creek (Exceptional Value), Mahoning Creek (Exceptional Value), Mud Creek and West Hemlock Creek.

 The Line begins in Montour County at the Montour Substation, northwest of Strawberry Ridge Road (SR 1002). The line travels east and turns along the border of the Montour Power Plant. The line turns to run generally southeast.

It makes another turn running more south, crossing into Columbia County near Eddies Ln (T-334). The line continues southeast, turns south and crosses Interstate 80, ending at the Columbia Substation, east of Quarry Drive (T-345).

DEP is accepting comments until July 27-- 30 days after this notice.
