Solar energy is the fastest-growing source of new electricity generation in the United States. Organizations that invest in solar can significantly reduce operating costs while protecting themselves from future utility price increases.
"Energy prices have gone up about 46 percent since 2018, and are projected to go up another 15 percent in the next year alone," said Mike Gable, Founding Director of Construction Junction.
“But at a time when so many expenses seem out of control, there is one large expense that we have more control over than we think – our electric bill. That’s why we’re here today, to talk about how Pennsylvanians can achieve energy independence.
“For those who couldn’t make it today, we encourage them to visit the Energy Independence for PA campaign website to learn more.”
Construction Junction shared its own success story in going solar.
Their 203.58 kW solar energy system was installed by local developer EIS Solar through the Pennsylvania Solar Center's GET Solar Program, which provides free-to-low-cost technical assistance and consulting to organizations pursuing solar energy projects.
Construction Junction’s solar system has reduced their electricity bill by 83 percent. EIS estimates they will save $643,692 over 25 years.
"There are many ways to benefit from solar energy – you don’t necessarily need to invest in your own solar array,” said Daniel Berg of the Clean Energy Co-operative of Southwestern PA.
“The more solar we put on the PJM electric grid, the lower energy costs could be for everyone – even PA consumers who don’t have their own personal solar investment. That’s because solar is an affordable way to create more energy supply to meet rising demand.
“We encourage all interested Pennsylvanians to join the Clean Energy Co-op, where members can support their community by investing in socially oriented community solar. It's a win for the hosts, a win for the investors, and a win for the community," said Berg.
“EIS is proud to have helped empower thousands of homeowners, businesses, and organizations in southwestern PA by going solar,” said Ian Smith, Director of Residential Consultations at EIS Solar. “We’re always happy to answer any questions folks might have, and encourage them to consider contacting their legislators in support of solar-friendly legislation.”
Over the last 25 years, Construction Junction has provided building material waste diversion services, public recycling services, and retail access to lower-cost used building materials for thousands of renovation projects.

The Clean Energy Co-operative is a member-driven community organization founded in 2014 to work to expand local ownership and investment in clean energy across Pennsylvania.
The Co-op brings together residents, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations to identify and develop solar projects that can reduce energy costs, strengthen local communities, and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
The PA Solar Center is a nonprofit organization with the mission to expand the benefits of solar to all Pennsylvanians through full-spectrum solar consulting, which includes preliminary feasibility assessment, financial navigation, bid support, and communication strategy.
