DEP: Ruptured Underground Gathering Line Releases Crude Oil Near Bull Run Resources Conventional Well In Warren County

On October 9, 2026, the Department of Environmental Protection inspected an area near the Bull Run Resources LLC Petersen 416 conventional well in Pleasant Township, Warren County in response to a notification of a crude oil release.

DEP found a ruptured underground gathering line released an unknown amount of crude oil to the ground that flowed over the surface and down a slope for about 190 feet and into a woods before ending up in a road ditch.

It then continued another 50 feet to the main access road for the well.

A cleanup crew was onsite that had installed several barriers to contain the crude oil flow in the ditch and was beginning to remove impacted soil to a dumpster staged at the site.

Multiple violations were issued.  “Future inspections will be done to document the extent of the release and remediation of the site.”

No written response was requested.
