DEP - Day 1,916: Monitoring Of Casing/Cement Failure Continues At Expand Operating Lucarino Shale Gas Well Pad In Bradford County

On October 6, 2026, the Department of Environmental Protection conducted an inspection of the Expand Operating LLC Lucarino 3H shale gas well in Wilmot Township, Bradford County to monitor casing/cementing failure.

DEP originally discovered the casing/cementing failure in the 3H well and issued a violation on July 8, 2021 to the owner for failing to report a defective well.

The well was drilled in October 2013.

Like many other shale gas wells with casing/cementing failures, DEP continues to regularly monitor these wells to see if there has been any change.

Casing/cementing failures can lead to “communication” and contamination of other unconventional and conventional oil and gas wells and with private water supplies.

As a result of this inspection, DEP continued the violation again.
