PJM Issues Hot Weather Alert Aug. 9 - 11 For Mid-Atlantic - Including PA - Southern Regions Of Service Area

On August 6, the PJM Interconnection issued a Hot Weather Alert for August 9 to 11 for the Mid-Atlantic and Southern regions of its service area ahead of expected hot weather.

Pennsylvania electric utilities in the Alert are Met-Ed, Penelec, PECO Energy and PPL Electric.

A Hot Weather Alert is a routine procedure PJM issues ahead of forecasted hot weather and/or high humidity to prepare transmission and generation staff and facilities for expected increases in electricity demand, or load.

This procedure does not require any action from customers.

Temperatures are expected to approach or exceed 90 degrees with high humidity across the Eastern portion of the PJM footprint, driving increased electricity demand in those areas.

This is the seventh Hot Weather Alert of the summer.  The others were issued for May 18-20, June 5-6, June 11-12, June 18, June 29 to July 5 and July 14 to 17

Forecasted Peaks

PJM is expecting to serve the following approximate peak loads:

-- Aug. 9: 136,029 MW

-- Aug. 10: 146,541 MW                                                                                 

-- Aug. 11: 144,018 MW

These numbers are official as of 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 6, 2026. They are subject to change and will be updated periodically.

PJM’s peak record was 165,563 MW, set on Aug. 2, 2006.
