Energy Transfer Asks PUC To Dissolve Sunoco Pipeline Company And Transfer Assets To 2 New Companies-- One For Natural Gas Liquids Pipelines Like Mariner East Pipelines And Another For Refined Petroleum Product Pipelines

The Energy Transfer pipeline company has asked the Public Utility Commission to dissolve the Sunoco Pipeline Company and transfer its assets to two new companies.
(formal notice)

One new company-- Energy Transfer NE NGL Pipelines LLC -- would own and operate the troubled Mariner East Pipelines and other pipelines carrying natural gas liquids.

A second company-- Energy Transfer RP Pipelines LLC-- would own and operate the pipelines carrying refined petroleum products.

From the formal request--

“The Proposed Restructuring would separate ownership of SPLP’s pipeline assets that transport petroleum products (natural gas liquids) from those that transport refined petroleum products.

“SPLP will be converted to a limited liability company known as Energy Transfer NE NGL Pipelines LLC (“ET NE NGL”), which entity will transport petroleum products (natural gas liquids), and SPLP will transfer its refined petroleum products assets to a new entity known as Energy Transfer RP Pipelines LLC (“ET RP”).”

The restructuring request includes not only the assets, but also the PUC’s certificate of public convenience authorizing the pipelines to operate as a public utility.

Formal protests and petitions to intervene must be filed by July 27, 2026.

The details of this proposed transfer are contained in PUC Docket No. A-2026-3063591, Docket No. A-2026-3063593 and Docket No. G-2026-3063595.
