Penn State Extension Hosts June 12 In-Person Field To Data - Environmental Stream Health Monitoring In Action Workshop In Huntingdon County

Join
Penn State Extension on June 12 for an in-person Field To Data - Environmental Stream Health Monitoring In Action Workshop in Pennsylvania Furnace, Huntington County from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Discover how stream health is measured through hands-on learning in flow, water quality, erosion, and sediment, with live demonstrations at a local stream site.

This one-day workshop introduces practical environmental monitoring techniques with a focus on stream health.

Participants will learn from researchers, Extension educators, and conservation professionals how key indicators—such as streamflow, water quality, and streambank erosion—are measured in the field and used to inform conservation and restoration decisions.

The program covers core approaches, including streamflow and water quality measurement, streambank erosion assessment, in-channel sediment mapping, and isokinetic sampling.

Participants will also explore how monitoring data support project planning and evaluation within conservation programs.

The day concludes with a field session at a local stream site featuring live demonstrations and guided, hands-on engagement with monitoring techniques.

The afternoon field component will include travel to a local stream site and will require participants to board and exit a bus, as well as walk a short distance downhill.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear; rubber boots are recommended for those who plan to enter the stream during sampling activities.

The field portion of the program will last approximately two hours. Please indicate any additional accommodation needs during registration so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
