Permits for the Petraitis 1H and Petraitis 2H wells were issued on May 9, 2014 and expired on May 9, 2015 and were only ever partially drilled and not completed for 11 years.
DEP also issued violations for “failure to drill with due diligence” and failure to post the well permit number and the owner’s name, address and phone number at the well site.
DEP requested a response to the violations by May 29.

So far in 2026, DEP issued or continued 10 notices of violation for shale gas well abandonment.
