DEP Invites Comments On PECO Brandon Shores Retirement 500 kV Transmission Line Reconstruction Project Stormwater Permit In York County

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the May 23 PA Bulletin inviting comments on an Individual Stormwater Permit for the PECO Energy Company Brandon Shores Retirement 500 kV Transmission Line Reconstruction Project in Peach Bottom Township, York County.  (
PA Bulletin, page 3046)

The project involves the reconstruction of approximately six miles of existing overhead transmission line.  The total length of the new transmission line to be installed is approximately 0.87 miles.

It involves the disturbance of 363.8 acres and will impact the Susquehanna River, Scott Creek, Muddy Creek and Exceptional Value wetlands.

The existing 5034 500 kV transmission line will be split into two segments and each segment will extend to the proposed Bramah Substation owned by Transource Pennsylvania, LLC.

The first segment will extend from the York Substation to the Bramah Substation and the second segment will extend from the Peach Bottom South Substation to the Bramah Substation.

The second segment will be temporarily renamed the 5074 500 kV Transmission Line, which will ultimately be connected to the 5014 500 kV Transmission Line under a separate project and renamed the 5014 500 kV Transmission Line.

PECO said the project is necessary to facilitate PECO’s Brandon Shores Retirement Mitigation Project and PJM 2022 Reliability Window #3 Project which were previously approved by the Commission at Docket  No. A-2024-3051467 and Docket No. A-2024-3051463, respectively.  Read more here.
