PJM Interconnection Issues Hot Weather Alert For Mid-Atlantic (Pennsylvania), Southern Regions For April 14-15

On April 10, the
PJM Interconnection issued a Hot Weather Alert for its Mid-Atlantic and Southern regions for April 14–15 ahead of forecasted unusually warm and humid spring weather.

A Hot Weather Alert is a routine procedure PJM issues ahead of forecasted hot weather and/or high humidity to prepare transmission and generation personnel and facilities for expected increases in electricity demand, or load.

This procedure does not require any action from customers.

Temperatures are expected to approach 90 degrees in these regions, which is atypical for mid-April.

The Mid-Atlantic Region is made up of the following transmission zones in Pennsylvania: Met-Ed, Penelec, PECO Electric and PPL Electric.

As of 11 a.m. on Friday, April 10, PJM expects to serve the following approximate loads April 13–15:

-- Monday, April 13: 98,200 MW

-- Tuesday, April 14: 109,200 MW

-- Wednesday, April 15: 114,000 MW

PJM’s record summer peak is 165,563 MW, set in 2006.

The PJM Interconnection coordinates the wholesale electricity grid and markets for all or parts of 13 states—Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia—plus the District of Columbia.
