Community Choice Aggregation Working Group Hosts May 13 Webinar On How Boroughs Can And Other Municipalities Could Purchase Power For Their Residents, Business And Lower Electric Bills

The Community Choice Aggregation Working Group will host a May 13 webinar on how boroughs can purchase electricity for their residents and businesses to lower electricity costs and proposed legislation that will expand this option to other local governments

High energy bills are severely impacting many community residents and small businesses! And the news just keeps getting worse.  

To increase energy affordability, more local governments are supporting Community Choice Aggregation.

Efforts to bring CCA to Pennsylvania have been underway since Nov. 2022.

Boroughs have explicit power to purchase energy on behalf of their residents under the Borough Code. 

The Public Utility Code embodies the principle that municipalities, such as the Boroughs, are public bodies that serve as effective protectors of customer interests.

Community Choice Aggregation programs in other states have reduced energy costs by 10% on average.

Eight boroughs: Narberth, Media, Swarthmore, Carlisle, Lansdowne, State College, Hatboro, and Camp Hill have signed Memoranda of Understanding to investigate CCA. 

These boroughs petitioned the Public Utility Commission to enable them to implement CCA.

Unfortunately, the petition was denied.  The boroughs have appealed that decision in the Commonwealth Court.  

While that legal process proceeds, the boroughs are pursuing State legislation to authorize CCA for all Municipalities.
