PA Turnpike Celebrates Opening Of Sideling Hill Trailhead In Fulton County Sept. 20; Keystone Trails Assn. Offers Buchanan State Forest Guided Hike

The
Pennsylvania Turnpike will soon connect communities and people in a whole new way at the Sideling Hill Service Plaza Trailhead.

The PA Turnpike and community leaders will host a grand opening and community day at the Sideling Hill Service Plaza to formally open the trailhead on Saturday, September 20 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Promoted as “Your Gateway to the Alleghenies,” the trailhead will serve both PA Turnpike and community users from just beyond the service plaza’s restricted gates.

The trailhead has access to the service plaza and its numerous amenities, as well as a covered pavilion with seating areas, bike racks, a bike washing and repair station made by local students and added green space allowing travelers to relax away from the Service Plaza’s hustle and bustle.

Community members are invited to the event, which will feature a formal ceremony with PA Turnpike leaders, as well as local and state stakeholders.

The community event will feature family-friendly activities and give-a-ways, as well as booths featuring local vendors and nonprofit organizations.

There will be face painting by Serafina Art Studio and 3D chalk art by Erik Greenawalt.

The Keystone Trails Association is sponsoring a guided hike in the Buchanan State Forest following the event at 2:00 p.m.

The Sideling Hill Service Plaza Trailhead is located 3744 North Hess Road, Waterfall, Fulton County 16689.

Access and parking off the Turnpike is available from the intersection of Mountain House Road and North Hess Road, or via both directions of the PA Turnpike at Milepost 172.3.
