On Saturday, August 23 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at the Van Scott Nature Reserve in Beach Lake, Wayne County, join the Delaware Highlands Conservancy to learn how you can be part of this important effort to help reverse declines in bird and pollinator populations.
The program will cover the threats pollinators face and some easy steps you can take to help support them in your yard and your community.
We will explore some of the most common bee and butterfly species you are likely to see around our region and then take a walk through the meadows at the Van Scott Nature Reserve to look for them.
The speaker, Louise Washer, is a member of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy Board of Directors and is a member of the Executive Board of the Pollinator Pathway, which she helped found in 2017, and which is now a network of over 350 communities across 19 states and Canada.
Louise serves as a facilitator of the Pollinator Pathway Advocacy and Pesticide Policy Committee which worked to help pass the Birds & Bees Protection Act in New York in 2023.
Space is limited for the program and advance registration is required. Event fee is $5 for Conservancy members and $10 for non-members.
This program is intended for ages high school to adult.
This event will include a sit-down discussion as well as a walk-and-talk component on the Van Scott Nature Reserve’s trails to view pollinator meadows and wildlife activity.
Please wear closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Be prepared to walk approximately 1.5 miles on uneven terrain.
For program details and to register, please visit the Conservancy’s Events webpage or call Education and Volunteer Coordinator Rachel Morrow at 570-226-3164 ext. 2.
The Delaware Highlands Conservancy’s mission is to conserve the forests, farmland, clean waters, and wildlife habitat of the Upper Delaware River region for present and future generations and to foster environmental stewardship through community engagement.
