Megan Lehman, a spokesperson for DEP’s Northcentral Regional Office, said, “On September 29, 2025, DEP sent correspondence to Eureka Resources notifying them of its intent to terminate/deny both the administratively extended NPDES Permit and their renewal application for this site after publication in the PA Bulletin and upon review of any comments received.
“The reason for the termination is the continued nonpayment of annual fees despite multiple pre-denial letters, notices of violation, and emailed correspondence.”
After several enforcement actions by DEP, Eureka Resources submitted a plan in September for cleaning up over 4.6 million gallons of oil and gas wastewater and closing the Standing Stone Facility and the two other oil and gas wastewater treatment facilities owned by the company. Read more here.
Eureka said 2,100,000 gallons of wastewater have to be removed from its Standing Stone Treatment Plant alone.
DEP will accept comments on this tentative decision for the next 30 days-- until November 10.
The application file is available for public review by calling the DEP Northcentral Region File Review Coordinator at 570-327-3693.
Questions should be directed to Derek Garner, DEP Clean Water Program, at 570-327-3681.
