Inaugural PA Trout In The Classroom Summit July 17-18 In Harrisburg

The Fish & Boat Commission, PA Council of Trout Unlimited, along with state and local partners will hold the first PA Trout In The Classroom Summit on July 17-18 at the Department of Education's PaTTAN Building, 6340 Flank Drive in Harrisburg.
The goal of the Summit is not only to provide an opportunity for PA Trout In The Classroom teachers and program partners to share what they are doing with TIC, but to also provide several opportunities for networking and building upon programs you are currently implementing!
On July 17 there will be an informal networking dinner at the PaTTAN Building from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. which is included in the registration.
On July 18 registration will start at 7:30 a.m., Exhibits open at 8:00 a.m.. there is a welcome at 9:30 a.m. and current sessions run from 10:00 to 5:00, including a luncheon keynote speaker at Noon.
Tentative Sessions To Be Offered
-- Welcome: Remarks by national Trout Unlimited, Fish & Boat commission, Dept. of Education
-- All About Trout: Trout Unlimited partners and state agency staff will share facts about trout, cold water resources and their importance to healthy communities-- and humans!
-- Concurrent Sessions--
-- MWEE – Meaningful Watershed Education Experiences (MWEE) - How they fit into TIC; funding opportunities and more!
-- STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM_ - How to connect the dots between TIC, MWEE’s and STEM education
-- Model My Watershed – An innovative approach to teaching environmental science.  This program is an interactive Web tool that students use to learn about their watershed and the impacts of land use on water quality and the environment.  This is a dynamic, videogame-like experience that lets students digitally modify land use within their own neighborhoods to examine how urban development or best management practices can affect water quality, flooding and stormwater runoff.  Real-life decision making, based on real science, brought right into the classroom!
-- Macros In Your Classroom – How to introduce your students to aquatic insects/organisms found in local streams through technology, leaf packs and preserved specimens!
-- TIC Round Table Discussion – A chance to hear from “veteran” TIC teachers, program partners and PFBC fish biologist about fish health, TIC lessons, TIC community connections and troubleshooting
-- TIC Activities/Projects – How to connect your TIC program to local watershed projects and Trout Unlimited’s Cold Water Heritage Program; ideas for school ground watershed projects/activities etc.
-- Regional Break-Out Sessions – This session will pull together teachers and program partners per PA Region (Northwest, Northcentral, Northeast, Southwest, Southcentral, Southeast PA).  The goal of the regional break-out sessions is to connect teachers and program partners who are near each other and begin to build regional networks to utilize throughout the TIC school year. We will be looking for at least 2 teachers and 2 program partners to serve as TIC mentors/ ambassadors within their region and assist with troubleshooting, serve as advisors for release day ideas, community connections, sustainability etc.
Displays
There is limited space for displays.  If you would like to share a unique project or lesson as a small table-top display, please indicate that on your registration.  Approved displays will be contacted before the Summit.
