CFA Approves 2 Grants Totaling Over $676,000 To Extend Natural Gas Service In Crawford, Wayne Counties

On May 22, the Commonwealth Financing Authority announced the aware of 2 Pipeline Investment Program grants totaling $676,392 to extend natural gas service in Crawford and Wayne Counties.
The Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County was approved for a $300,000 grant to extend a natural gas line into the Keystone Regional Industrial Park in Greenwood Township, Crawford County.
The property was previously utilized as a World War II-era manufacturing facility. The gas line will serve the Crawford Advanced Materials biodiesel production facility and other development sites for up to 15 new businesses in the southern section of the park.
The total project cost is $604,741 and is expected to create 50 jobs.
The Wayne Economic Development Corporation was approved for a $376,392 grant for the installation of a natural gas line through Waymart Borough and portions of Canaan Township, Wayne County.
The project will bring clean-burning natural gas to 47 households, two churches, eight businesses and 29 acres of developable land along S.R. 296, Honesdale Road and Railroad Lane. The total project cost is $752,784.
Though Pennsylvania has a vast network of natural gas pipeline infrastructure, some areas require funding assistance to construct the “last mile” of pipeline to extend that network to business and residents.
The Pipeline Investment Program provides grants to construct the last few miles of natural gas lines to business parks and existing manufacturing and industrial enterprises, which will result in the creation of new jobs in the Commonwealth while providing access to natural gas for residents.
Applicants eligible for PIPE funding include businesses, economic development organizations, hospitals, municipalities, and school districts.
