Penn State Extension Schedules 7 Safe Drinking Water Clinics For Well Owners

Penn State Extension has scheduled 7 Safe Drinking Water Clinics in Western and Northcentral Pennsylvania from June 18 to September 18 covering testing and protecting your private drinking water supplies.
The clinics will be held--
-- June 18: New Castle, Lawrence County - 3:00
-- June 25: Brockway, Jefferson County - 2:30 and 5:30
-- August 21: Warren, Warren County - 3:00 and 6:00
-- September 18: Smethport, McKean County - 2:00 and 6:00
Over one million homes and farms in Pennsylvania get their drinking water from a private well or spring. This workshop is designed for people who manage one of these private drinking water supplies.
It will cover how to test and protect your well or spring, and when water treatment might makes sense. We will also discuss well and spring system inspection and maintenance so you know how to protect your family, your property, and the groundwater we share.
Free water testing is frequently offered to a limited number of households at these workshops.
Call or email the instructor listed for the event you plan to attend to confirm if testing will take place. See the instructor tab for the clinic you are interested in for this contact information.
Testing for any of the following may be offered: bacteria, pH, total dissolved solids, and nitrate nitrogen. Test results are not official, but are instead offered to help participants decide how soon they should consider additional testing by a state accredited laboratory.
At a minimum, Penn State recommends testing every 12-14 months for bacteria (total coliform and E.coli. bacteria), and every three years for pH and total dissolved solids.
Support for these workshops is provided by the Master Well Owner Network grant from the Department of Environmental Protection and the PA Ground Water Association.
