DEP - Day 1,391: Complaint Inspection Finds BKV OPR LLC Shale Gas Well With Known Casing/Cement Failure Venting Gas In Wyoming County

On September 14, 2026, the Department of Environmental Protection inspected the BKV OPR LLC  Reel-Macialek Unit McConnell 3H shale gas well in response to a complaint and found the well was venting gas in Tunkhannock Township, Wyoming County.

An area resident filed a complaint with DEP on September 13 and the site was inspected the following day.

DEP issued violations to this well for casing/cementing failure on Nov. 23, 2022 when it was found to be leaking gas and the well owner submitted a corrective action plan on Feb. 24, 2023.

On this inspection DEP did not find gas in the well cellars or during a walk around the pad and production equipment

The annulus vent to the 3H well was found some gas was venting from the well using a test with a blue nitrile glove.

DEP said it would like the owner to schedule a pressure build up test on the well and to be present while the test was taking place.

Previous violations were continued and the inspection report was sent to the well owner.
