DEP Invites Comments On Proposed Hazardous Sites Cleanup Consent Agreement For The Precision National Plating Site In Lackawanna County

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the April 19 PA Bulletin inviting comments on a proposed Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act Consent Order and Agreement with Precision National Plating regarding the cleanup of the Precision National Plating Site in Abington Township, Lackawanna County.  (
PA Bulletin, page 2950)

The facility was used as a chrome-plating facility from 1958 to 1999 and chromium wastes stored on the site leaked from an unlined lagoon and were absorbed into the soils.

Under the proposed Agreement, Precision agrees to complete all corrective actions included in a May 2012 order, work with PA American Water Company to install a waterline extension around the site and procure environmental covenants on properties impacted by or threatened to be impacted by the chromium contamination from the site.

DEP will accept public comments on the proposed Agreement for 60 days from the publication of this notice.

Comments should be sent to Scott J. Bene at sbene@pa.gov or by mail to DEP’s Northeast Regional Office, 2 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

Requests to review the Agreement at DEP’s Northeast Regional Office should be sent to Scott J. Bene at 570-826-2198, sbene@pa.gov or Michael T. Ferrence at 570-826-2259 or mferrence@pa.gov

Read the entire PA Bulletin notice for more information.  (PA Bulletin, page 2950)
