The Water’s Edge is an annual gala and award presentation that recognizes an individual or organization making a lasting impact on freshwater systems.
Greenberg, a lifelong fisherman, has taken his love for fishing to pen, helping readers escape screens and find balance on the planet.
He is the author of six books, including The New York Times bestseller and notable book Four Fish: The Future of the Last Wild Food, and creator of the PBS Frontline documentary The Fish on My Plate.
Greenberg has received a James Beard Award for Writing and Literature, a Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation, a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship, and many other grants and awards.
He has also written for National Geographic Magazine, GQ, The Times (of London), and Vogue. He lectures on seafood and the environment around the world.
He is the writer-in-residence of the Safina Center and regularly contributes to academia.
He is an adjunct professor at New York University’s Animal Studies Program in Manhattan and is a visiting scholar at the University of Washington’s Ocean Nexus Center.
Approximately 150 guests enjoyed hearing Greenberg describe global efforts needed to ensure sustainable fishing.
Greenberg said, “Aquatic systems are the lifeblood of our planet. I’m deeply honored that the Stroud Center has chosen me to ‘speak for the water' at their annual event."
Executive Director, President, and Research Scientist David Arscott, Ph.D., said, “Today, we’re celebrating the inspiring work of Mr. Paul Greenberg, who is helping people understand how their food and lifestyle choices can support fisheries conservation and climate action. His work has more than just water and fish in common with the Stroud Center’s mission. At the core of what we both do is to research, learn, and share knowledge with others, helping them make informed decisions that benefit the human species and the sustainability of our planet.”
After the award presentation, guests enjoyed an elegant dinner featuring a specially curated menu of seasonal and local fare courtesy of Winterthur Chef Stephen Osienski.
