PA Solar Center Hosts Oct. 18 Webinar On Solar For Schools Grant Program

The
Pennsylvania Solar Center will host a webinar October 18 on the new Solar for Schools Grant Program from Noon to 1:30 p.m.

The webinar will feature Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler (D-Philadelphia), prime sponsor of the legislation establishing the program.

Also presenting is Leo Kowalski, Director of the Center's GET Solar Schools Program.

The discussion will include an overview of the legislation and the recently promulgated Department of Community and Economic Development guidelines on submitting applications.

More and more schools have been going solar, with about 5 percent of Pennsylvania schools already making the switch.

These schools are offsetting anywhere between 65% to 110% percent of their previous energy costs per year.

Some schools have even eliminated their energy bills altogether and receive revenue for excess energy through net metering. These schools are reinvesting those energy cost savings back into the classroom.

For Pennsylvania schools who haven't flipped the switch just yet, the creation of this new state solar fund, as well as the passage of the federal Inflation Reduction Act, should make the math of going solar even more attractive.

Many schools can go solar with no money down by partnering with developers eligible for the tax benefits that have increased with the Act and who can pass along those savings to schools.
