Centre County Festivals Recycle 3,500 Pounds Of Organics, Recyclable Materials

Over 3,500 pounds of organics and recyclable material were collected during the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, The People’s Choice Festival & Heritage Days, according to the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority.
Broken down by festival, the recycling numbers are as follows:
-- Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts – 540 pounds of plastic bottles, 120 pounds of aluminum cans, 620 pounds of mixed recyclables, 40 pounds of miscellaneous plastic, 500 pounds of corrugated cardboard and 560 pounds of organic material.
-- People’s Choice – 240 pounds of plastic bottles 640 pounds of corrugated cardboard.
-- Heritage Days – 80 pounds of plastic bottles and 60 pounds of corrugated cardboard.
In addition to recycling at local festivals, nearly 20 pounds of unused food was donated to a local shelter.
Centre County festivals keep getting “greener” each year thanks to the efforts of partners Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority, State College Borough and Fest Zero (a group of Penn State Alumni, current students and concerned citizens).
The Authority is pleased to report that the amount of trash collected at the festivals this year decreased from last, showing that recycling and waste reduction is working!
It was a great year for recycling at local festivals.  The Authority thanks all of the fair-goers who did the right thing!
Look for recycling bins at the Grange Fair next month to help to divert even more material from our landfills.
