DEP Approves Tire Derived Fuel For Stronghold Digital Mining's Panther Creek Coal Waste Power Plant In Carbon County

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the May 17 PA Bulletin announcing that on May 1 it approved the use of Tire Derived Fuel as a supplemental fuel for the Panther Creek coal waste-fired power plant owned by Stronghold Digital Mining, Inc.-- a cryptocurrency operation-- in Nesquehoning Borough, Carbon County. The proposal was opposed by local residents and the Save Carbon County organization who raised concerns about increased air emissions and other issues.  Read more here.

A copy of the approved Air Quality Plan Approval is available at the DEP Northeast Regional Office in Wilkes-Barre.

Those aggrieved by the decision have 30 days from this notice to file an appeal with the Environmental Hearing Board.
