PUC Issues Emergency Order To Veolia Water To Take Over Wonderview Sanitary Water Facilities In Columbia County After Owner Abandoned The System

On March 14, the Public Utility Commission
issued an emergency order authorizing Veolia Water Pennsylvania Inc. to manage and operate Wonderview Water Inc. and Wonderview Sanitary Facilities (Wonderview Water and Wastewater) and appointing Veolia as a receiver for the water and wastewater systems.

The emergency action by the PUC comes as a result of an unfortunate set of circumstances resulting in the imminent abandonment of the Wonderview Systems by the current owner.

The PUC requires jurisdictional utilities to provide adequate, efficient, safe and reasonable service and facilities on a continuing basis.

As receiver, the emergency order directs Veolia to operate Wonderview Water and Wastewater in compliance with all state, federal and local laws and regulations, including the Pennsylvania Safe Drinking Water Act – along with maintaining necessary permits, responding to system emergencies, conducting routine maintenance, keeping financial and accounting record, and taking other necessary steps to provide adequate, efficient, safe, and reliable service.

Wonderview Water provides service to approximately 350 customers, while Wonderview Wastewater provides service to 161 customers in Main and Catawissa townships, Columbia County.
