Penn State Extension: Dive Deeper Distantly - Water Educators Virtual Summit Oct. 1

The Penn State Extension
Dive Deeper Distantly: Water Educators Virtual Summit on October 1 is for anyone who teaches youth about water.
Whether in a K-12 classroom, in a nature center or park, or through virtual platforms - water education is critical for helping nurture our future water stewards.

During this unusual time, we are adapting our face-to-face summit so that we can safely continue to highlight best practices in water education.

We will be featuring talks on distance learning needs, resources, and adaptations throughout the day.

Keynote - Kathy Carroll

The keynote speaker for this special event is Kathy Carroll, World History Teacher and Social Studies Vertical Team Lead at St. John's Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas.

Kathy Carroll's career as an educator spans over 25 years in both public and private schools. She relishes her dual roles as a teacher and a life-long learner.

Informed by her Master of Humanities degree and graduate certificate in Digital Public Humanities, Kathy engages students through an interdisciplinary approach by employing multi-media classroom projects and historical field research.

Recently, Esri's StoryMaps Live! program highlighted her as a Featured Storyteller. The team invited her to share her work with the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum to adapt its featured installation, A Right to the City, into a digital exhibit using ArcGIS StoryMaps.

In response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Kathy is also using ArcGIS StoryMaps to package meaningful digital learning experiences for her online classroom. Her StoryMaps have been featured on Esri Hubs for COVID-19 Response and Racial Equity.

Kathy has also written curriculum for the American Battle Monuments Commission and the National Cemetery Association and works with local cultural institutions to increase their digital footprint.

She currently teaches world history and serves as the social studies vertical team chair at St. John's Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas.
