This training course was developed by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) in collaboration with Penn State Extension Urban Foresters in southeast Pennsylvania.
The course is designed for laypeople and experts alike. Become one of the Tree Tenders restoring and tending your part of the forest.
Since its inception in 1993, PHS has trained thousands of Tree Tenders in 150 neighborhoods. In 2004, the program received support from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and began expanding to Pittsburgh and other areas of the state in 2008.
Over 2,000 additional Tree Tenders have since been trained across the Commonwealth.
Instruction is provided by DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry, in partnership with Penn State Extension, PHS, Tree Pittsburgh and other local urban forestry experts.
Continuing Education Credits are available: ISA Certified Arborist, SAF, and ASLA
Tree Tender Training Manuals will be mailed to each attendee.
Tree Tender Certificates will be awarded to attendees that attend all seven sessions and complete the quizzes.
This Tree Tender Training fulfills the requirement for TreeVitalize Grants offered by DCNR.
