Get Outdoors Poconos Dec. 17 West End Regional Park Hike In Monroe County

The Brodhead Watershed Association will host another in its series of Get Outdoors Poconos hikes on December 17 with a hike through the West End Regional Park in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County starting at 10:00 a.m.
The 244-acre West End Regional Park owned by the Township and features a variety of trails – including a flat, handicapped-accessible path, exercise stations throughout, and meadow and woodland trails.
A recent addition built by volunteers adds even greater appeal: a network of single-track trails to challenge mountain bikers and hikers.
Carol Hillestad will lead this moderate to challenging 2 mile hike which starts upslope along an open field, the trail includes beautiful views, a wooded detour, a bubbling creek with rockwall dam, and unusual finds such as antique farm equipment left to rust. Signs of the large tree nursery that once flourished here remain.
Trails cross and loop among the trees to create challenges for mountain bikers. Uphill and down, they make for challenging and exhilarating hiking, too.
The hike is free, but registration is required. Call 570-839-1120 or 570-629-2727 or send email to: info@brodheadwatershed.org to register. Directions will be provided upon registration.
The Get Outdoors Poconos hiking series is administered by Brodhead Watershed Association and supported by a grant from the William Penn Foundation.
