The free, open-house-style event is part of the annual National Solar Tour hosted by the American Solar Energy Society October 2-4.
Visitors will have the opportunity to tour a net-zero home, speak directly to an experienced solar installer, and learn how solar power and other renewable energy technologies can work together in a home.
The home features rooftop, pergola, and awning solar, battery backup, electric vehicle charging, three heat pumps, interior daylight features, and air-quality monitoring.
The all-electric home has no propane or natural gas connection and produces enough renewable energy to offset its energy consumption.
Founded in 1954, the American Solar Energy Society is a nonprofit organization that advocates for sustainable living and 100% renewable energy.
Each year, ASES hosts the National Solar Tour to promote renewable energy and increase the adoption of solar energy.
Running from October 2-4 this year in-person and virtual with stops across the country, the National Solar Tour is the largest grassroots solar and sustainable-living event in the nation.
Participants will be able to see solar systems firsthand and talk about installers, financing, regulations, EVs, and more throughout the tour.
For Zook, the tour is an opportunity to build more relationships with those interested in solar and renewable energy in his community.
“We hope visitors leave with a better understanding of what goes into a net-zero home and how all the different systems and technologies work together,” Zook said. “More than anything, we want people to feel comfortable asking questions and exploring what may be possible for their own homes.”
The tour comes as Belmont Solar celebrates its 25th anniversary. Zook founded the company in 2001 after combining solar panels with batteries to create an off-grid power supply.
Since then, Belmont Solar has grown from its off-grid roots to provide grid-tied solar, battery storage, electric vehicle charging, agricultural solar, and other renewable-energy solutions throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
“When we started, there was still so much about solar that we had to learn,” Zook said. “Over the past 25 years, it has been exciting to see our team grow, take on new technologies, and help more people understand what solar can do. Education and personal connections have always been an important part of that work, which is why events like the National Solar Tour are so valuable.”
Visitors can stop by during the open-house hours to explore the home’s energy systems and ask Zook questions about solar power, battery storage, net-zero living, and the considerations involved in bringing renewable energy into their own homes.
