The hands-on display is designed to help visitors of all ages better understand how solar energy works and how the sun can be used to create clean, renewable electricity.
“We wanted to find a way to make solar energy something people can actually see, touch and interact with,” said Amy Schirf, CCRRA Education Coordinator. “It’s one thing to talk about solar panels and renewable energy, but it’s much more fun when you can actually experiment with it and see what happens.”
The display complements CCRRA’s own solar energy project, which includes more than 1,600 solar panels installed across three Authority buildings.
CCRRA could save more than $2 million in electricity costs over the life of the array.
The system is part of CCRRA’s broader commitment to sustainability and provides an opportunity to turn the Authority’s facility into a real-world learning experience.
The new interactive display will be incorporated into CCRRA’s educational programming, including facility tours, school visits and community events.
Visitors will be able to explore the basics of solar energy while seeing how renewable energy connects to CCRRA’s own operations.
Local media are invited to come see the new display in person! CCRRA would be happy to provide a demonstration, answer questions and give media an opportunity to photograph and experience the display.

Recycling Mini-Grants
Applications are now being accepted for Recycling Mini-Grants to provide funds for projects that improve recycling education and collection of materials to be processed by CCRRA.
Grant funds are made available based upon the market performance of recycling commodities processed by CCRRA for the prior calendar year. Funding levels are subject to change each year.
The deadline to apply is December 31.
