On September 17, the Alliance will host a public meeting to provide the public information on efforts to restore the Shamokin Creek Watershed.
The meeting will be held at the Brady Fire Co. Social Hall, 700 Maple Street Ranshaw, Northumberland County starting at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of this project is to incorporate data from previous watershed studies with current data to create a complete assessment and restoration plan and to collect the DEP-requisite 12 months of sampling data from the nine most significant acid mine drainage discharges within the Upper Shamokin Creek watershed.
Through this study, the goal was to define specific projects for the Alliance to pursue, through grant funding, for restoration of the Shamokin Creek.
Representatives from Tetra Tech, Inc. will present the report findings and water sampling data and discuss future treatment options for our watershed.
The watershed assessment project was funded by the Department of Community and Economic Development, Community and Economic Assistance grant and the 1994 Charles B. Degenstein Foundation.
The Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation provided field data collection and technical expertise on this project.
The Northumberland County Conservation District assisted with field visits and shipment of water samples to the DEP lab for testing.
