PJM Announced It Is Accepting New Applications For Interconnection Review; Decisions Expected In 1 to 2 Years Under New Process

On August 22, the
PJM Interconnection announced it is accepting new service requests for review under the Cycle No. 1 of PJM’s reformed interconnection process until April 27, 2026.

PJM said the processing time for issuing Generation Interconnection Agreements will be one to two years, and PJM is exploring ways to speed the process further.

Previously filed New Service Requests that did not qualify to be studied during the transition to the new process may be submitted into Cycle No. 1, along with new requests, to be reviewed after that date.

In July 2023, PJM began transitioning to a new, improved generation interconnection process designed to more expeditiously process new generation projects that are the most likely to get built.

Since then, PJM has studied (PDF) nearly 140 GW of generation interconnection projects. The interconnection transition queue has been reduced to about 63 GW of projects as of June 2025, all of which will be processed in 2025 and 2026.

Also on Friday, PJM updated the schedule for the Transition Cycle 2 (TC2) Phase I System Impact Study (SIS) posting date and the Decision Point I (DP1) period. TC2 Phase I SIS reports will be posted to the Cycle Service Request Status page Oct. 31. TC2 DP1 will open Nov. 3 and close Dec. 2.

The Cycle Timeline chart on the PJM.com Planning page now reflects this updated schedule.

Through the second quarter of this year, about 46 GW of interconnection projects – enough to power 40 million homes – currently have signed agreements to connect to the grid, but many are being stymied by issues beyond PJM’s control, like federal, state and local permitting and siting and supply chain challenges.

If you have any general questions regarding this announcement, please consider attending the next Interconnection Process Subcommittee on Monday, Sept. 8. For more information, please contact InterconnectionSupport@pjm.com
