PA Festival Of The Arts Visitors Helped Meet Zero Waste Goal By Recycling 1,500 Pounds In State College

On July 20, the
Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority announced over 1,500 pounds of organics and recyclable material were collected during the four day Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College.

Festival attendees were given many recycling options to choose from.  Recycling bins were set up throughout festival grounds for plastic bottles, metal cans, lemonade cups and French fry buckets.  There were also bins to collect compostable material.

Arts Festival gets “greener” each year thanks to the efforts of Fest Zero; a group of Penn State Alumni, current students and concerned citizens, the Borough of State College, the Pennsylvania State University and the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority.

Although waste reduction was key to this festival, we were still able to donate about 17 pounds of food to local shelters following the event.

We were glad to be back in person for the festival.  We will continue to work to minimize the amount of trash produced at this wonderful event.

Thanks to everyone who did the right thing!
