New York Times Best Selling Author, Ornithologist Scott Weidensaul To Speak At Wildlife Gala In State College May 21

New York Times Best Selling Author and Pulitzer Prize finalist,
Scott Weidensaul will be the guest speaker at the third annual Pennsylvania Wildlife Gala held at the Wyndham Garden, State College on Friday, May 21. 

The Pennsylvania Wildlife Gala is the largest fundraiser for the Wildlife for Everyone Foundation, the conservation-focused organization based in State College. 

Weidensaul’s latest book, A World on the Wing: The Global Odyssey of Migratory Birds, was released at the end of March and landed on the New York Times Bestseller list in the category of Biology of Wildlife. 

Weidensaul will share highlights of A World on the Wing, addressing the remarkable feats of migratory birds, the conservation challenges they face and his international field experiences alongside those fighting to save migratory birds. 

A Meet and Greet gathering with the author will follow the Gala for those in attendance. 

A native of Pennsylvania, Weidensaul started his writing career as a weekly columnist for the Pottsville Republican. He left that post in 1988 to pursue a freelance writing career specializing in nature and wildlife. 

Weidensaul’s writing has been published in Audubon, Bird Watcher’s Digest, Living Bird, National Wildlife and many other publications.  

Weidensaul is a founder of the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art in Millersburg, PA, where he serves as Collections Curator and Saw-whet Owl Program Coordinator. 

He is a Board member of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and directs the ornithology program for National Audubon’s Hog Island Center on the coast of Maine.   

Weidensaul is the author of more than 30 books, including the Pulitzer Prize-nominated, Living on the Wind: Across the Hemisphere with Migratory Birds and the New York Times best-selling book, A World on the Wing: The Global Odyssey of Migratory Birds. 

He is founder of the Critical Connections project which tracks the migration of birds that breed on national park lands in Alaska. He is an active field researcher, studying saw-whet owl migration for more than two decades, as well as the migratory routes of western hummingbirds and the winter movements of snowy owls.
