Schuylkill River Runners moved its Elk Run from the Benezette area to Cameron County. The event features a 5K, 10K and Half Marathon on August 8 and 9. All the running will take place on the Cameron County portion of the West Creek Rail Trail.
“This event gives Cameron County businesses the opportunity to show off their hospitality,” says Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak.
When the Cameron County Chamber was contacted about moving the event, Solak organized a meeting for safety personnel, race organizers and the owners of Rich Valley Wines.
“I knew the winery was planning an outdoor event for the weekend and thought maybe the two events could coordinate activities,” Solak continued.
All three races will start and end on the trail in downtown Emporium.
Participants will be directed to the downtown outdoor stage area to enjoy Bryan Titus who is performing as part of the Rich Valley Wines event. That concert sponsored by Rich Valley Wines and Hygrade Inn and will begin at 8:00 p.m. August 8.
Schuylkill River Runners will also sponsor Titus for an afternoon concert on August 9. During both events, Rich Valley Wines will have tastings, slushies, and bottled wine for sale. The event is not limited to race participants. The public is encouraged to bring chairs and enjoy the live performances.
Users of the West Creek Rail Trail reminded that late morning Friday a truck will be on the trail marking the distances for all three events. The 5k and 10k races begin Saturday evening at 6pm. The half marathon begins Sunday at 7:00 a.m.
