PA Resources Council Launches Hard-To-Recycle Collection Events July 18 & 25 In Allegheny County

The
PA Resources Council will launch its Hard-To-Recycle Collection Events in Allegheny County on July 18 and 25.

Participants will pay a fee to dispose of some materials-- such as televisions and tires-- while other items-- such as cell phones and microwave ovens-- will be accepted for free--

-- Pay For Disposal: televisions, computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances and tires (with and without rims);

-- Free Disposal: cell/home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment (keyboards, laptops, mice, etc.), expanded polystyrene packaging material, glass bottles/jugs/jars, microwave ovens and video game consoles/DVD players.

“This year PRC will introduce new procedures including advance registration to reduce the number of interactions occurring between event participants and staff to promote safety during the current COVID-19 outbreak,” according to Sarah Alessio Shea, PRC Collection Events Manager.  “To streamline the process at our events, we’re asking participants to wear face coverings, pay by credit/debit cards if possible and stay in their vehicles while the contractor unloads the materials.  When preparing to attend one of these collections, participants should place all hard-to-recycle materials in their car trunks or truck beds.”

Collection Events

The first collection events will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.--

-- July 18: Bethel Park High School, 309 Church Rd., Bethel Park, PA 15102; and

-- July 25: La Roche University, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237

Participants at the July collection events must adhere to the following guidelines: 1) place items in car truck or truck bed;  2) wear a face covering;  3) remain in vehicle at all times;  4) pay by credit/debit card if possible;  5) visit PRC’s website for updates before attending the event.

“PRC has scheduled three additional hard-to-recycle collections in Allegheny County,” said Shea.  “Due to the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, all event dates, locations, acceptable materials and associated fees are subject to change, so we encourage residents to check [the PA Resources Council website] for updates before attending an event.”

PRC’s 2020 schedule of hard-to-recycle collection events is sponsored by Colcom Foundation, Allegheny County Health Department, LANXESS, NewsRadio 1020 KDKA, NOVA Chemicals, Municipality of Bethel Park, Frazer Township and Municipality of Monroeville.
