Penn State Extension: Online Municipal Stormwater Training Center

As interest in managing municipal stormwater continues to increase, the need for some training, especially online training, becomes more important.
As interest in managing municipal stormwater continues to increase, the need for some training, especially online training, becomes more important.

The Environmental Finance Center at the University of Maryland, in partnership with the Low Impact Development Center, Inc. received a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to develop the first Municipal Online Stormwater Training (MOST) Center to serve communities in the Chesapeake Bay region.

The MOST Resource Center provides information and resources to help municipalities design and implement effective, affordable stormwater management strategies and programs.

The Resource Center contains reports, tools, web-based trainings, factsheets, and more to help communities meet their stormwater management needs. Resources can be browsed by topic area or by associated MOST course.

Some of the online course titles include, green infrastructure and low impact development 101, funding urban forestry programs, user’s guide to urban stormwater BMPs, stormwater financing 101, and erosion and sediment control for construction sites, to name a few.

The trainings are self-paced, accessible at any time, and help the user develop a tailored program using the course materials that best suit their needs.

There are also links to resource materials related to topics such as climate and resilience, community engagement, finance, green infrastructure, MS4 minimum control measures, BMP design and performance, and policy and planning.

The information and training materials are available for free for anyone interested in learning more about stormwater management.

This includes municipal and county staff managing stormwater programs, elected officials, planners, citizens, businesses, nonprofits, and professionals wanting to develop better knowledge and dialogue on stormwater management program development.

The MOST Center will also provide certificates of completion, Professional Development Hours (PDHs), Continuing Education Credits (CEUs), and recognition for participants who reach higher levels of learning in training sessions.
