Sustainable Community Development Network June 18 Leveraging Watershed Groups To Improve Water Quality, Support MS4 Stormwater Program Webinar

Improving water quality, managing storm-water, and adapting to a changing climate are some of the most difficult challenges faced by municipal leaders in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Effectively-led watershed groups are an excellent community resource for municipalities seeking to mitigate those issues and comply with their MS4 requirements.
Watershed groups come in many different sizes and structures, from all volunteer-led organizations to professionally run nonprofits. While their capacities may differ, working together with municipal leaders, all watershed groups can have positive community impacts.
Learn how the Allegheny Watershed Alliance, a program of the Allegheny County Conservation District, works with local watershed groups and municipal leadership to improve collaborative outcomes.
The presenters will be Rebecca Zeyzus and Amy Miller of the Allegheny County Conservation District, will discuss:
– common activities of watershed groups
– potential issues and their solutions
– coordination across boundaries
– collaboration on relevant Minimum Control Measures and water quality work
– opportunities to leverage unique grant opportunities
– sharing cost and time burdens
– improving community engagement
– green infrastructure
Rebecca Zeyzus is the Municipal Stormwater Program Lead for the Allegheny County Conservation District and the Executive Director of the Allegheny Watershed Alliance.
