The Associated Press reported Thursday the Delaware River Basin Commission is developing a proposal to replace its 7-year long moratorium on shale gas development in the watershed with a permanent ban.
The proposal is scheduled to be made public Friday and could be voted on as early as next week.
DRBC did not comment on the report.
The ban, if enacted, would cover New York, which already has a statewide ban, shale gas areas in Pennsylvania in all or parts of Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill and Wayne counties and New Jersey, which has also be against drilling.
In March of this year, a case filed by the Wayne Land and Mineral Group, landowners with natural gas shales on their properties, against DRBC on its temporary moratorium was dismissed. The landowners then appealed.
