Bring your family and friends to participate in a fun, educational, day-long program about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Pennsylvania at Poe Valley State Park in Centre County on July 23.
During the program, you will become immersed in CCC camp life, and even experience the “chow time” of yesteryear. You will also be able to:
-- Learn how events brought about the creation of the CCC program that included the construction of Poe Valley State Park;
-- Enjoy a stroll along Poe Valley Lake that resulted from the construction of an earthen and masonry dam through the works of CCC Company 1333 Camp S-63 located near the park;
-- Visit the site where the camp was erected and tour the original officer’s quarters building; and
-- Watch a brief Camp S-63 motion picture from 1936.
Please register online or call 814-234-4479 to enjoy a free lunch featuring real menu items from authentic CCC recipes and menu boards.
The Centre County Historical Society; DCNR; and William Marcum, research authority on the Poe Valley CCC Camp partnered to offer this “step back in time” for people of all ages.
