On August 31, DEP found the Young Men’s Christian Association of Green 1 conventional well was leaking gas and began its investigation. Read more here.
Multiple violations were issued related to the gas leak and failure to submit production and waste reports since 1998 and a well integrity report for 2025 and sent the inspection report to the well owner..
On September 11, DEP returned to the site and found the well owner failed to address any of the violations and the well was still leaking gas.
DEP’s inspection report said it has determined the conventional well is responsible for the gathering pipeline leak and that People’s Gas had temporarily repaired the pipeline.
DEP also issued new violations to the owner for abandoning and not plugging the well and continued the earlier violations.
On September 16, DEP did a follow-up inspection and reported the well owner had not submitted production, waste or well integrity reports and failed to address the other violations DEP issued.
The well was also still leaking gas.
DEP did not report any response from the well owner to the violations in its inspection reports.
DEP continued all the violations and asked for a written response by October 6.
