Delaware Highlands Conservancy Hosts Volunteer Land Conservation Monitoring Training At The Van Scott Nature Reserve In Wayne County

The Delaware Highlands Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust operating Pike and Wayne Counties in Pennsylvania and Sullivan and Delaware Counties in New York. 

To date, the organization has helped to protect nearly 19,000 acres of farms and forests, clean waters, and wildlife habitat through land protection agreements called conservation easements.

Conservancy staff visits each one of these conserved properties annually to walk the land, monitor the conservation easement, and ensure that the conservation values of the property are being protected. 

Monitoring volunteers assist staff with this important task.

From 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on May 21, May 29, and June 7, the Conservancy is hosting an informative Monitoring Volunteer Training session at the Van Scott Nature Reserve in Beach Lake, Wayne County, PA. 

Attendees will learn about the monitoring program and how to become a volunteer.

Interested volunteers only need to attend one of the three training sessions offered. 

The training will include an introduction to monitoring, accompanied by a practical example site visit. 

Volunteers will gain valuable insights and contribute to the conservation efforts of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy.

Attendees should be prepared to walk at least two miles on sloped terrain each day for the training, and wear closed-toe shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. 

Light refreshments will be provided; attendees should bring a reusable water bottle.
