The blue recycling bin will be located at the Township of Pine Municipal Building, 230 Pearce Mill Road, Wexford, Allegheny County and available for self-serve drop off around the clock.
Beginning Friday, September 1, residents can drop off all colors of glass bottles, jars and jugs seven days a week as part of a region-wide glass recycling network.
“Glass is still one of the most recyclable materials we generate in our homes, and the market for glass recycling is very strong,” according to PA Resources Council Deputy Director Sarah Alessio Shea. “When you take the time to use glass-only drop-off sites, nearly 100% of the glass collected is recycled into new bottles and jars, while curbside programs are only able to capture up to 70% of glass for recycling.”
Individuals will deposit glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no sorting required). Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off site.
“Our comprehensive plan in Pine talks about the value of the environmental stewardship in our community,” said Township Manager Jason Kratsas. “I’m excited the Township of Pine can provide a program to satisfy our community’s needs by giving residents another option that will recycle glass products, not just repurpose them.”
The Glass Recycling Collaborative of Southwestern PA, a partnership between municipalities in Allegheny County and PA Resources Council, provides reliable, uninterrupted glass recycling access.
The Pearce Mill Road permanent recycling site is sponsored by Township of Pine and is made possible through a DEP recycling grant held by the Borough of Dormont.
Program partners are CAP Glass and Michael Brothers Hauling & Recycling.
All glass collected will be hauled by Michael Brothers to CAP Glass in Mt. Pleasant, PA. There it will be sorted and prepared for use by regional glass product manufacturers.
A bottle, jar or jug dropped in the bin can be recycled and back on a store shelf in less than 30 days.
