PA Resources Council In Pittsburgh Launches 100% Recycled, 100% Local Office Paper Cooperative With American Eagle Paper Mills In Blair County

The PA Resources Council has launched a new Recycled Paper Cooperative to make 100 percent recycled paper more affordable by purchasing large volumes of office paper directly from the American Eagle Paper Mills in Tyrone, Blair County and passing the savings on to co-op members.
"PRC is dedicated to keeping Pennsylvania office paper 100 percent recycled, 100 percent local by making it affordable and convenient,” according to PRC Managing Director Justin Stockdale. “Taking part in the Paper Coop is literally as easy as 1, 2, 3: place your order online, receive delivery instructions via email and then pick up your paper supply.”
By purchasing 100 percent recycled content paper through the coop, members can save more than $10 per case compared to average market prices.
“The average mid-size office consumes one ton of paper per year, about 40 cartons. By joining PRC’s Co-op, small to medium size businesses and nonprofits will have an opportunity to purchase 100 percent recycled content paper at an extremely competitive price,” said Stockdale. “Each ton of 100 percent recycled content paper purchased from the coop will preserve 24 trees, conserve 7,000 gallons of water, support local jobs and much more.”
Deadline For Orders
The deadline for the first order is March 27 at 5:00 p.m. Members will receive a confirmation email with instructions to pick up their orders at PRC’s Northside headquarters at 828 W. North Avenue in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, April 22 in celebration of Earth Day.
Orders for a June shipment can be made online beginning on April 22.
About American Eagle Paper Mills
American Eagle Paper Mills is considered to be the heartbeat of Tyrone, Blair County and the surrounding community in Pennsylvania’s eastern Allegheny Mountains.
Built in the 1880s under the former owner, MeadWestvaco, the mill operated continuously until 2001 when the owners abruptly ceased operations.
The town and the families affected by job loss were devastated.
In 2003, a group of local investors, including former mill managers, revived the paper mill under its current name of American Eagle Paper Mills. The mill now employs 240 people and produces 300 tons of recycled paper products daily.
American Eagle Paper Mills' core operation is bolstered through sustainable practices by converting recycled paper waste into high quality printing and writing paper.
In 2016, the mill strengthened its commitment to sustainability by replacing its coal fired boiler with an $8 million highly efficient natural gas boiler and upgraded power distribution system.
With this upgrade, the mill reduced its water intake by 82 percent!
American Eagle Paper Mills continues to position its operations for future sustainable growth and improvements.
American Eagle Paper Mills works with the following third party independent auditing organizations: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Rainforest Alliance, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and U.S. EPA’s SmartWay transport program.
