The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its partners, the Delaware River Basin Commission and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, are hosting a public meeting regarding a reevaluation study for the Francis E. Walter Dam and Reservoir on January 9 at the Mountain Laurel Resort in White Haven, Luzerne County.
The Army Corps, in partnership with the DRBC and New York City, initiated the re-evaluation study on September 25, 2019. The study will evaluate the feasibility of various alternatives to optimize project operation.
Aside from the project’s authorized primary missions of flood risk management and recreation, the study will also consider water supply and water quality, to identify possible improvements to the existing structure, infrastructure, and operations that will support current and future demands within the region.
The general public and other stakeholders are invited to attend the meeting to learn more about the study. In addition, the public will have an opportunity to provide initial feedback on the study and interact with project team members.
The meeting will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Mountain Laurel Resort, 81 Treetops Circle, White Haven.
The Agenda for meeting:
-- 6:00 – 6:30: Welcome/sign-in and poster/open house session
-- 6:30 – 7:00: Presentation by study team
-- 7:00 – 7:30: Audience question and answer session
-- 7:30 – 8:00: Follow on discussions at posters/wrap up
The public is invited to provide initial feedback and study recommendations leading up to the meeting and after the meeting. Comments can be submitted via email to: PDPA-NAP@usace.army.mil or in writing.
