PUC: Natural Gas Costs Increased From 9.26% to 57.5% Over The Last Year For Natural Gas Utility Customers Not Shopping For A Fuel Supplier

In Pennsylvania over 50.7% of households heat their homes with natural gas, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

Natural gas customers who do not shop for a competitive natural gas supplier pay the default price for gas from their gas utility distribution company.

The default price is generally adjusted quarterly by the utility, but the utility cannot make a profit on the gas it provides to default customers.

Over about the last year, the cost of natural gas supplied to default customers has increased from 9.26% to 57.5%, depending on the natural gas utility supplying the gas, according to PaGasSwitch.com.

the increases for each utility were--

-- Columbia Gas of PA - 16.96%

-- National Fuel Gas - 43.5%

-- PECO Gas - 9.26%

-- Peoples Gas - 57.56%

-- Philadelphia Gas Works - 51.19%

-- UGI Gas Utilities - 49.15%

During those 12 months or so, utilities also saw prices go higher and lower, as the past price charts on PaGasSwitch.com show.
