On July 1, the Brodhead Watershed Association announced its Native Plant Sale will be open for online orders July 2-30 for delivery in September in Monroe County. The sale will be for pre-paid pre-orders only.
For those gardeners looking to take advantage of these benefits-- for one, the soil is warmer; there’s no frozen mud in September-- Brodhead Watershed Association is hosting an online Native Plant Sale, with ordering in July 2020 and curbside pickup of the plants on September 12 in Tannersville.
Approximately 60 types of perennial plants, shrubs and vines will be available, with categories for sun- and shade-loving plants, as well as deer-resistant ones. All of them are native to this area, so they will be beneficial to the local ecosystem and require less care.
Plants you get at the September 12 sale will have plenty of time to spread their roots and absorb the soil’s nutrients before they enter winter dormancy as the ground freezes. Those critical fall weeks of root growth in late September and well into October will also boost the plant’s resistance to frost heaving.
So spend the summer assessing your existing landscape and preparing for additions to it. Order your plants in July and mark your calendar for September 12, when your garden will be ready to receive new native plants.
All orders will be pre-paid and distributed by contactless curbside pickup from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, at Pocono Township Fire Hall’s “carnival building” on Route 611, Tannersville, Pa. Bring your receipt and ID to verify your purchase.
BWA members get 10 percent off their entire purchase. Shoppers can buy a BWA membership online along with their plants.
Pre-orders close 5 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020. No refunds. All sales final.
